Trail Overview

South Baldy Lookout Road (FS 5080306) is a 4.2-mile out-and-back route through Kaniksu National Forest that climbs toward the historic South Baldy Lookout. The road starts as dirt with some rutting before becoming progressively rougher. Large embedded rocks and several rock steps are found throughout the route, along with deeper ruts near the middle. The terrain is consistently rough, making this a slow drive. South Baldy Lookout Road is open to all vehicles.

Difficulty

South Baldy Lookout Road is rated moderate. Large embedded rocks, rock steps, and deeper ruts require good ground clearance and careful tire placement. The biggest challenge is the consistently rough terrain, which makes progress slow throughout much of the route. A high-clearance 4WD vehicle is recommended.
