Trail Overview

This is a 1.3 mile long segment of single track that connects Jolly Mountain to Little Salmon La Sac Road FS 4315. It’s a great connector trail if you are staged at the Salmon la Sac Sno-Park so that you don’t have to ride the difficult and rocky Jolly Mountain Trail twice. Sasse Mountain Trail is much easier, and shorter, and then you can take 6.5 miles of easy road back down to the staging area. It has a bit of loose rock and mild exposure as it rides atop a ridge line, and a couple tight switchbacks, but overall it is pretty flowy and approachable for the average rider. Part of it goes through an old burn area, making the potential for new log hazards high, but the trail is cut by local groups, and was free of any downfall in mid July. In the middle of the route, it follows an old shelf road, so the trail is pretty wide, although still on the edge of the mountain side. It drops almost 700 feet elevation over the short route, from east to west, and ends at a turnaround spot on the 4x4 road across from the start of the nonmotorized portion of the Sasse Mountain hiking Trail.

Difficulty

This is a moderately easy route because it is a mix of steep and gradual, with a bit of loose rock and loose dirt, mild exposure, and one tight switchback. It is not overly difficult, but is still more suited to riders with a bit more experience due to the high alpine and exposed terrain and changing conditions in the old burn area.
