Trail Overview

Largely single vehicle with turnouts for passing, this trail varies from sections that are well maintained gravel forest service road to portions in the middle where the gravel is long gone, and there are ruts and mud holes up to about 12-inches deep. Several sections are narrow and overgrown, so be prepared for moderate pinstriping. This road has views of both Lake Wenatchee and the Chiwawa River Valley as it crosses the ridge separating the two valleys. Expect to find active logging on this road, and be mindful of logging equipment as well as private property at both ends. This trail has decent cell coverage, certainly enough for an emergency call. There are numerous side trails off of this road offering everything from nice forest service roads, to single track, to unmaintained roads that require a 4x4. Little camping is to be found directly on the road, however there are campsites on the side roads.

This trail has some ruts from rain wash outs and from someone driving on it when it was muddy. For the most part it is a very easy trail and more of a Level 2 than a 3. The tree from the earlier report has been cleared. The forest service is cutting back the vegetation to get ready for the fire season. They have only finished the clearing of vegetation on half of the trail. The rest of the trail is overgrown and will leave marks on your vehicle. The trail took us 1hour and 45 minutes to complete and that was with stops to take photos of Lake Wenatchee and the snow covered mountains.

Easy enough for just about any high clearance vehicle with 4WD, however there was one section with 2 large downed trees which were lying over the trail near the top, i was able to fit under them with a stock lift on the Wrangler but just barely. If you have a roof rack or a rooftop tent you likely wont fit until they are cleared. Quite a few big puddles and more than one section with fairly deep ruts. Overgrown in many places but not hard to get through.
