Trail Overview
Tucked within the lush, heavily timbered expanses of the National Forest, Paradise Ridge - FS 6401 is a short and highly rewarding out-and-back forest spur. Branching off the main forestry network, this route primarily serves outdoor enthusiasts looking to access the scenic Paradise Hills trail for a day of exploration. The pathway meanders under a beautiful, dense evergreen canopy, providing a shaded and tranquil woodland escape away from the busier thoroughfares. The driving surface consists of a well-maintained, single-lane gravel road that offers a remarkably easy journey leading directly to a massive, open quarry pit at the end of the route. This expansive terminal clearing serves as a fantastic, secluded group campsite with plenty of room to easily arrange multiple vehicles, set up large tents, and establish a comfortable base camp for the weekend.
Difficulty
Earning an accessible Grade 2 difficulty rating, this out-and-back woodland spur features a firm, reliable gravel foundation that is completely free of severe technical off-road obstacles. Deep mud bogs, intimidating rock crawls, and treacherous shelf drop-offs are entirely absent from the easygoing drive. The only notable terrain consideration on this route is the presence of persistent surface washboarding, which can occasionally create a jarring, vibrating ride if traversed too quickly. Maintaining a controlled, moderate speed is all that is required to comfortably absorb these minor corrugations, maintain optimal traction, and safely navigate to the expansive quarry campsite at the end of the line.
