Trail Overview

This trail is pretty easy for the most part depending on which direction you go. If starting at Jorsted Creek Road, 2WD is all you need. The road has loose rock with washouts but easily traversed. If entering from the Jefferson Creek/Elk Lake side, 4WD will be required for the extremely loose rock, uphill section. This trail follows along a ridgeline with nice views over the valley.

The trail is single-vehicle width, with a minimal amount of turnouts. Expect loose gravel, and depending on the direction of travel and weather, 4WD may not be required.

There are two washouts on the way to the peak. Nothing impassable, but I recommend taking it slow. On the way to the peak, there is a steep-ish incline with loose, large diameter gravel and small landslide on the driver’s side going up. On the lower section of Nettleton, there are potholes.

Drove from the Elk Lake side. Much of the climb is on somewhat loose, large gravel, with some bare rock exposed in the roadway, various ruts, potholes, small branches in the road, and some exposure on the passenger side, but none of this is too challenging. Closer to the peak, between the 2441200 and 246900 intersections, is much more degraded. Expect larger rocks, a less even surface, and more washouts. One section of the road appears to have been previously repaired with a culvert, but a couple feet of the road surface has collapsed down the hill around the culvert. There's still enough stable surface to get a full-width vehicle through, but that may not be true if it collapses any further. From the peak to NF24 is easy enough. There's some deep ruts down the roadway from water runoff and new-ish man-made dips to divert water across the road, but all are easily navigated. I made it in a stock Forester Wilderness but probably wouldn't try in anything less capable.

near 47.54572, -123.15638 the trail had a partial washout. I was able to pass on my 4x4 Jeep Wrangler but suggest caution.

I should have gotten pictures, but the trail is heavily washed away in some spots. passable in a f150 supercrew, but I was puckered up for a bit of it. wouldn't recommend unless you have a smaller 4x4 vehicle. no snow.
