Trail Overview

This is a rough dirt and rocky trail leading to the remains of an old Homestead. On this route depending on the time of year you go through there are 2 water crossings but they don't get all that deep. There are multiple areas that are tight that you will get pin striping on your vehicle. This route is slow going for most people due to the rough road. There is a camping area across from the old homestead as well as other places along the route you can camp.

Difficulty

This is a rocky, dirt road that has two water crossings. Depending on the time of year, the water levels will fluctuate, with large mud holes possible after rain events, but they typically dry out in the summer months. You will want to have good tires and a spare on this route, as there are sharp rocks.

Overan with vegetation in some areas. Anything wide will leave with pinstripes.

Very dusty going in, a few washed out areas that you can easily straddle and its very rocky in some areas. Upper trail close to Jackknife road is where it gets a bit sporty for a 10 foot section. High off-camber area exceeding 25 degree, I stopped looking going thru, and there is a rock to the left if you roll. One minor water crossing. A lot of the sage has been cleaned out by a recent fire, but pin stripping is still a thing. Thank god for ceramic coating.

Expect pin striping on the southern half of the Homestead Trail from Vantage Highway north to the short connector to the adjacent blue trail, Cayuse Creek Cruise. The northern half of the Homestead Trail is open country without the vegetation to pin stripe. To see the homestead site, a better approach would be to start two miles east along the Vantage Highway at Pumphouse Valley on the Cayuse Creek Cruise trail, where there's no brush to pin stripe your vehicle. The blue trail didn't seem any more rough than the southern half of the green trail. Optionally take the short connector over to the northern half of the Homestead Trail.

a few small water crossings and one ledge out of a mud hole. Nothing too crazy but a few spots where it should've rushed. Very windy but the perfect time of year. Down in the creeks lots of willow and shrubs to pinstripe your rig and lots of tall grass in the center strip to hide rocks.
