Trail Overview
FS 5483 is an enjoyable forest drive tucked into the Wenatchee National Forest just west of Keechelus Lake. The route follows a mostly well-maintained gravel road with occasional rocky sections, shallow water runoff, and loose dirt that can become dusty in summer or muddy after rain. Most stock high-clearance SUVs and 4WD vehicles will have no trouble, making this a great option for a relaxed day of exploring. Along the way, you'll travel through dense evergreen forest with occasional openings that offer views of Keechelus Lake, nearby ridgelines, and the surrounding Cascade Mountains.
The surrounding area offers plenty of opportunities to extend your adventure. Several side roads lead to dispersed camping spots, while nearby trails provide access to hikes toward Silver Peak, Mirror Lake, and sections of the Pacific Crest Trail. The forest is also popular for seasonal hunting, wildlife viewing, and photography, with chances to spot deer, elk, black bears, grouse, and a variety of birds. Whether you're looking for a scenic drive, a quiet campsite, or a basecamp for hiking and exploring, Forest Road 5483 is a great gateway to the Keechelus Lake backcountry.
