Trail Overview

FS 2740070 is a 3.8-mile out-and-back route that branches off the main Forest Service road and travels through dense forest on a narrow gravel surface. The route is characterized by frequent water bars, many with sharp entrances and exits that require drivers to slow down. A grassy center strip becomes slick when wet, and several narrow shelf-road sections require careful attention. Brush encroachment steadily increases toward the end of the route, where the road becomes significantly overgrown. Most full-size vehicles should plan to turn around before the road's end to avoid backing up a narrow shelf road. The road is open year-round to highway-legal vehicles only.

Difficulty

FS 2740070 features numerous water bars, narrow shelf-road sections, slick grassy center, and increasing brush encroachment. Several water bars are deep enough to challenge lower-clearance vehicles, and the steep approaches and departures can be difficult to spot until the last moment. Higher-clearance vehicles are recommended, and drivers should be prepared to turn around before the final overgrown section to avoid backing up.
