Trail Overview
Finney Pit is a 0.9-mile out-and-back route that climbs a single-lane gravel road to a large gravel pit. The trail features some water damage, loose rock, and a few steeper sections along the climb. The route ends at the gravel pit, which contains several rock gardens and other features that can be used to test vehicle capability and driving skills. Finney Pit is open year round, and is open to highway legal vehicles only.
Difficulty
Finney Pit is generally easier, but not recommended to for low clearance vehicles due to the combination of water damage, loose surfaces, and steeper grades. While the route itself is relatively short, the gravel pit at the end contains several rock gardens that can provide a more technical challenge for drivers looking to test their vehicles. Weather conditions such as rain can increase difficulty, particularly where loose surfaces become slick. As with most trails in the area, bringing a chainsaw or equipment to clear fallen trees is recommended.
