Trail Overview

Easy-to-moderate trail near Chewelah, WA, with a steady climb and switchbacks. Mixed terrain of gravel, compact dirt, loose rock, grass, and ruts. Starts approachable, becoming more engaging as elevation builds. Rated 2 when dry but can shift to 3–4 in wet conditions. High-clearance AWD/4WD recommended. Dispersed camping throughout with rewarding views of 49 Degrees North and the surrounding mountains.

Difficulty

Rutted sections, loose rock, and mild off-camber switchbacks. Obstacles are generally small but require basic tire placement. Wet conditions can increase difficulty significantly, pushing the trail into a 3–4 rating.

Trail was a little wet and like the other post said there are 2 or 3 really deep ruts. I don’t have a full size Bronco but my Sport Badlands made it up all of them no problem. Lots of growth so had to push back some branches so not to get scratches. Unfortunately the last turn and stretch was so overgrown that I didn’t continue because didn’t want those scratches.

Aside from some deep, dry ruts in places, the trail was relatively easy. Never engaged 4x4. Gets pretty narrow at the very end of the trail and I was thanking God for my PPF. Great out and back! Outstanding views!
