Trail Overview
Overbay FS 644 is a Forest Service road running along the northern side of Glade Mountain. Winding through dense forest, the trail offers occasional views of the valley below, hiking access, and OHV riding. Although the route is not overly difficult, recently renovated sections still provide a touch of ruggedness—perfect for those wanting to get on a dirt road and explore the wilderness. The trail acts as a continuation of Glade Mtn FS 86, resulting in even more off-road mileage. Along the route, the Appalachian Trail intersects, offering miles of hiking in proximity. Because Glade Mtn also intersects with the Appalachian Trail to the south, adventurers can easily link them together to create a larger loop featuring world-class hiking and easier Forest Service terrain.
Difficulty
A few portions of this trail feature narrow sections, blind corners, and rough patches. These rough sections contain small ruts and rocks that are typically no larger than a few inches. Depending on recent rainfall, a few of the corners can become muddy and slippery. Extreme caution should be exercised around these tight turns, as some feature large, steep drop-offs.
