Trail Overview

This is a fairly easy trail assuming you have a high-clearance vehicle with AWD or 4x4. You can start the trail by turning off the main highway and passing some disbursed camping areas, before greeting the gatekeeper by the Entering Arches National Park sign. You'll pass by some arches, beautiful scenery, and end up entering Arches National Park through a back entrance. This will end within the park and on the pavement.

Difficulty

This is a fairly easy trail for those that have high-clearance 4x4 or AWD vehicles, assuming the roads are dry and it had not rained recently. You do cross a lot of washes, so if it recently rained check your weather apps and watch for flash floods.

Some of the trail shows signs of excessive wear due to the rain storm a couple weeks ago. Some deeper ruts. You can pick lines to make this a rating three or less.

Other trail reports list this trail as obstructed- but it is not. The entrance on the onX map is no longer correct. You need to enter into the Utahraptor state park entrance to get to the start of Willow Springs. Once there, the trail is super fun with a mix of sand, rock shelfs and river beds. Easy access to Arches as well as Eye of the Whale.

Perfect conditions. The trail is NOT closed. At the old trail entrance, there is a sign with an arrow stating to use new entrance through the Utahraptor State Park entrance. The Utahraptor Sate Park is only 1/5 mile north of the old trail entrance on HWY-191. The guard shack attendant will point you to the new trail entrance.

We were able to make it through this trail with 2WD the entire way and a cargo grate attached to the back of my vehicle on my stock 23 Tacoma with Falken Wildpeak AT 4Ws. I would recommend airing down to make the ride more comfortable though. Any stock Jeep or Taco should be able to make it through no problem, just watch out for some spots that have about a foot drop off along the way.

The trail is not closed, it is just a different entrance than shown on the map. You have to enter through the state park about 100 yards further down the road. They will let you in for free if you are going to arches national park, otherwise it is a $15 entrance fee.

Began the trail from the picnic area inside Arches National Park. Washes closer to the BLM portion were dry; the rocks as I neared the BLM gate were a little tricky for me as my first off-road experience, but went slowly and carefully without any scraping—I might not have attempted this trail if I had started from the BLM side. Encountered a Moab tour group, a trio of motorcycle riders, and a trio of mountain bike riders coming in from the BLM side. Had some challenges finding the connection to 191–look for the Utahraptor State Park visitor center because the road that shows on maps is blocked off.

You can no longer enter at the OnX entrance point. Hey put up road block barriers. About .5 miles north the entrance through the park is the new entrance.
