West Canyon Trailhead Road is a scenic, beginner-friendly route perfect for stock four-wheel-drive vehicles, SxSs, and dirt bikes looking for easy access to the Stansbury Mountains and spectacular views of the Tooele Valley. Spanning approximately 4.8 miles, this unpaved road climbs gently from Highway 138, gaining over 1,600 feet of elevation as it ascends toward the West Canyon Trailhead on the edge of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. The trail is primarily a wide, graded dirt and gravel road suitable for high-clearance vehicles, though a standard passenger car can manage it during dry summer months. As travelers climb higher, the panoramic vistas of the opposing Oquirrh Mountain range and the sprawling valley below become increasingly dramatic.
Rated as a highly accessible trail, the route is straightforward with minimal obstacles other than a few standard cattle guards. Access Description
The lower portion of the road crosses private property before entering the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. Stay on the designated road to respect private land boundaries. High-clearance four-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive is recommended, particularly during wet weather, and winter snow accumulation can make the road impassable without specialized winter equipment.
