Trail Overview
Miner Canyon/Kimbell Mine is a moderately challenging route in the Stansbury Mountains, popular with high-clearance 4x4s, OHVs, and dual-sport motorcycles. Spanning approximately 4.4 miles, the trail climbs from 5,014 feet to 7,264 feet. The initial section features a steep climb with large rocks and deep dips requiring 4-Low, while the remainder of the trail is consistently rocky and bumpy. While stock Jeeps can manage the terrain, narrow switchbacks near the top may require multi-point turns for longer-wheelbase vehicles.
The trail offers expansive views of Tooele Valley, Skull Valley, and the Great Salt Lake. Near the end of the route, visitors can explore a historic miner's shack and the old Kimbell Mine site. An old hiking path continues past the end of the road onto the Stansbury Mountains ridgeline. Due to its rocky terrain and high elevation, this unpaved route is best traveled from late spring through autumn when free of snow.
Difficulty
at the beginning of the trail, there is a bit of a climb that has some bigger rocks and dips that will require 4 low and throughout the trail, some of the rocks in the trail make for a very bumpy ride but driveable in a stock jeep. Sxs or 4 wheeler, its just a bumpy trail but easy, motorcycle, more watching out for the big rocks.
