Trail Overview

Stansbury Gulch A is a short but engaging off-road climb on Stansbury Island perfect for four-wheel-drive vehicles and SxSs looking for scenic canyon views and a touch of technical challenge. Starting just above the popular target practice area in Stansbury Gulch on the left-hand side of the canyon, this 0.6-mile trail climbs steadily, gaining approximately 560 feet of elevation from a starting point of 4,350 feet up to 4,910 feet. The trail surface consists primarily of dirt interspersed with sharp, buried rocks that require careful tire placement to avoid punctures. As the route ascends, drivers will navigate tight squeezes where massive boulders have sheared off the canyon walls, though established go-arounds help bypass the largest obstructions. With a moderate technical rating of 4, this route is best suited for high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles, SxSs, and capable off-road rigs prepared for narrow passages and loose terrain. The climb features an average gradient of over 9 degrees, culminating in a final, steep and loose hill composed of mixed dirt and rock. This challenging upper section terminates at an intersection with the Stansbury mountain bike trail, where adventurers must turn around or transition to other recreation. Due to the exposed desert environment on Stansbury Island, the trail is best visited during the spring and fall when temperatures are mild, though winter access is possible depending on snow levels.

Short, nothing remarkable about this trail. Would recommend if you're in the area already. It's not a destination trail. The last 30 yards or so, to the top of the saddle and beyond the trail marked on this map, are very steep and loose. Not having lockers, I did not attempt.
