Trail Overview

Skyline Drive South is a high-altitude trail perfect for beginners and scenic cruisers, offering breathtaking panoramic views from over 10,000 feet along the crest of the Wasatch Plateau in central Utah. Spanning approximately 8.4 miles, this high-mountain route features minimal elevation change, ranging from a low of 10,347 feet to a peak of 10,641 feet, with a gentle cumulative gain of around 542 feet. Under dry summer conditions, the trail is an easy, fast-moving dirt track with a technical rating of 2, making it accessible to most stock high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles and OHVs. Drivers should remain alert for steep, unprotected drop-offs along the ridgeline, as well as frequent wildlife and livestock grazing near the road. The primary surface consists of dirt and occasional loose gravel. Travelers should plan for self-sufficiency, ensuring they carry adequate supplies and check local weather forecasts before departing, as mountain storms can develop rapidly. This section provides an excellent gateway to the broader Manti-La Sal National Forest, making it a highly rewarding drive for those seeking alpine vistas without intense technical obstacles.

Drive N and S Skyline. Both are great but I understand why the S is higher rated! It's phenomenal! A long drive end-to-end up gorgeous and has some great camping. The souther end of S has many more trails that interweave. Great weekend trip! I'd say the N and S section are both 1-2 in rating so rated as a 2. Funny enough the N is rated as a 1 and the S as a 3 on several sites.

Nice trail. Short of having to change a tire due to a sharp rock on a side trail climbing up Manti Canyon it was a wonderful ride. Lots of snow patches, but nothing that was a blockage.
