Trail Overview

Risky Biz is a 1.8-mile point-to-point trail rated 8 of 10 located within the Sand Mountain Open Riding OHV Area. This challenging trail combines sandy washes with slick rock obstacles and technical challenges. Departing the trailhead leads up a sandy wash. Don't let this fool you, the gatekeeper is just around the corner. A trail marker points to the primary off-camber slick rock climb and just off to the right is a more technical optional climb. Continuing on the trail, the next obstacle is called "The Sand Trap," a two-stepped, steep climb that will get you spinning in the sand if you aren't lined up just right to get traction on the patches of rock. The trail then weaves through a series of smaller obstacles, but don't be fooled, a slip off the wall on one of these will cause body damage. Arriving at the split is an option for left or right. The left line is generally taken by SxSs while the right by well-built rigs, but both lead to another series wall to climb. Next up is "Washed Up," an off-camber climb that requires good tire placement or the vehicle may end up on its side. Near the end of the trail are the last two major obstacles. The first is "Ups and Dunes," a steep slick rock climb with an even steeper slick rock descent on the other side. Once down the trail wraps around the lakeside of the rock face until it reaches "Tummy Tickler." This final obstacle is a steep climb with a nasty notch that must be negotiated before reaching the top. At the top is the area known as "The Parking Lot," which offers great views of Sand Hollow Reservoir, Pine Valley Mountain and the Zion National Park Mountain Range. The trail drops off from "The Parking Lot" and ends at the intersection with Water Tanks Road. Cell phone service is generally good throughout this trail and the nearest services are located in Hurricane.
