Trail Overview

This is a fun and somewhat technical out-and-back trail. It's a nice scenic trail through the pines and aspens with a few camping spots along the trail. Depending on when you go, there are a lot of wildflowers along the way. This trail also goes up to Tyngs Grave and also old mine areas. There are some loose rocky spots that can be a challenge to get through, but they keep you and your passengers entertained. The views from the top are spectacular!

Mud and snow at the top, making it unsafe to continue up the road much past the grave. The trail below the grave was is in good condition but narrow with lots of branches extending into the trail for pin striping. Great trail choice for a beginner. A couple small rock gardens on the way up, but nothing a stock wrangler couldn’t navigate. Beautiful views.

The trail is super narrow and not many areas to turn off for bi-directional traffic nor passers so keep an eye on the road ahead of you and any wider spots as you may need them. I lucked out and it wasn’t too busy of a day. The trail was more difficult than photos let on. Still very doable in my stocker 4 Runner but had to walk a few places to visualize lines due to washout and large boulders. Expect pin-striping. Waypoint 3-7 is where most of the boulder action is and there are 3 areas of “boulder fields” that could cause you issue. Would have been easier with a spotter. The last 1/3 of the trail is where it is most scenic. Primarily the last two waypoints to the top. Fun ride. Not my favorite compared to others I’ve done partially due to the worry that you’d have to negotiate with someone coming the other direction through the first 1/2 of the trail. Haha

Long runs of loose large rocks. Keep on the throttle and use good clutch work. Definitely good enduro.

This trail is definitely open. People say it's closed due to the American Fork trail closure. You can access the trail by coming up from Midway on Baker Pass. The trail is in decent condition but is getting tougher every year with high use/erosion. Some of the rock ledges could cause a belly/tailgate drag in stock off-road vehicles (Tacoma, Wrangler Sport, etc.) I don't think this trail is getting as much use this year due to the AF closure. Trees are encroaching and will pinstripe most 4x4s. The West "Texas Tunnel" loop is becoming really overgrown and doesn't look like anyone is using it. Some tight squeezes in the Gladiator. Just before bottom on the way East back to the Pacific Mine: don't be confused by a log with a "Wrong Way" sign nailed to it. Someone moved it. Connector trail that heads back to the West is closed. There are a couple big boulders you can go around but the trail is washed out and impassible. You'll have to back a ways out. Not sure who moved the big log. Just continue out to the East.
