Trail Overview

Forest Lake Trail is in the beautiful American Fork Canyon, Utah. This trail runs Southeast on the way up and is not a loop trail. It is recommended to have a higher clearance vehicle but can be navigated clean with the right spotter. Certain stock vehicles will be able to complete the trail if you do not mind a few scrapes on the bottom of your vehicle. This trail is mostly basketball to beachball size rocks with 12-15-inch deep ruts from water runoff. Make sure to roll your windows down and take in the deep forest air.

The trail up from Tibble Fork is closed around Holman Flat. The sign says there is trail damage at the narrows section. I did not attempt to go around the Cascade Springs

Very dusty but good trail definitely want a lift may 4runner got a few dings underneath. The first section is the hardest so if you make that you should be good.

Definitely very dry. Bring clippers if you don’t want too many pinstripes. Just got up here around 12:00pm, caution for anyone on their way up as I’m heading back down around 12:30pm today. Very scenic drive, it’s not a lake up at the top right now, more like a pond that’s getting dry.

First part, the rock garden, is the hardest. We had 2 4runners on 34s and it took some spotting and line adjustments. Fun, challenging trail

This trail is pretty washed out sense last time I was there. My jeep has a 3” lift and 33’s and it was a good challenge.

Trail is accessible from midway. Once you turn off the main trail to go up to forest lake there is a shallow creek crossing. Just past the crossing there is a tight boulder field (I did not get a good picture but Google has some pictures of it) that might take some spotting and good control. I got through it with a stock Bronco Badlands on 33” with minimal scrapping on rock sliders (I am not very experienced so it is possible without scrapping). After that the trail stays rocky and semi technical but nothing that needed spotting. The lake right now is small and covered by algae but has good campsites and great views.

Trail is in good shape. You have to approach from Midway, as the access road is destroyed above Tibble Fork in AF canyon.
