Trail Overview

Starting fairly easy, this trail's difficulty progresses, presenting some beginner to intermediate challenges. It climbs nearly 1,000 feet to about 0.1 miles east of the Mill Canyon Spring. A short walk will take you the rest of the way to the spring. However, this trail isn't just about the destination. Aside from a fun, rugged beginner trail, there are many turnouts in the aspens and pines for picnics or primitive camping that offer spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

The first 2/3 of this trail has recently been graded making that part close to a 2/10 difficulty. The last 1/3 of the trail has not been worked on and has 2 small rutted out climbs. I took a bad line on the final climb and had to use my rear locker to get up. I would rate that section closer to 4/10.

Very peaceful and easy drive with beautiful view of Timpanogos for the first 70% of the trail. The last 30% of the trail is the more challenging section. This last portion is a solid 3/10. If you have moderate clearance and all-terrain tires, then it's very enjoyable. No spotter needed. No exposure or shelf roads.

Unbelievably washed out compared to where it was just a couple years ago. Large areas are completely eroded. With lots of puddles and mud.

Having done a lot of jeeping with the jeep app and seeing their ratings, I thought because it was a level 3, that I’d be able to get through with a 2010 Ranger with 31’s. I had enough clearance, but definitely need 4WD, or a 2WD with lockers to get through. It’s gotten even deeper (about 14”) than the pictures due to the rain and everything. Only got just past the main entrance area and had to turn around. Very deep ruts, but easily avoidable. Scenic drive all the way up! Worth it regardless!

Had rained recently so a few ruts/pot holes, but overall a pretty easy trail because the ruts can be straddled. Beautiful drive in the fall colors.

About 2/3 of the way up the trail there’s a semi-steep curved section with significant holes / woops. Three Tacomas turned around rather than attempt it. Also, lots of flies and bugs in the forest.

Rocky, few whoops here and there (the attached picture is the worst of em). You may need a locker, or some sort of ATRAC system to get up it. Early on in the trail, there’s a very deep hole in the middle of the trail.

First part of the road is ok. The farther you go the more it deteorates. Large deep ruts needed 4WD - Low to get through some of it. No water on the road but there is some late spring run off
