Trail Overview

Non-Resident OHV permits apply to ATVs, UTVs, and dirt bikes. Plated street-legal vehicles typically do not need one on legal motorized routes. This route offers a scenic drive with a unique ridgeline feel as it follows the side of sandy and rocky formations in the Yellow Cat area. Much of the trail provides elevated views and a more exposed feeling compared to the surrounding flats, making it a rewarding option for those looking for scenery without a highly technical trail. Along the way, expect several washouts that require reduced speed and attention to wheel placement, especially after storms or seasonal erosion. One of the more notable challenges comes at the turnoff from Yellow Cat Loop, where a very tight corner may require multi-point maneuvering for longer wheelbase rigs, full-size trucks, trailers, or wider vehicles. Shorter rigs will have an easier time here. The route finishes at a scenic overlook of the northern portion of Yellow Cat, making it a great out-and-back trail for photos, quiet views, and a quick side adventure. Near this point, most vehicles will reach a natural turnaround point where space and trail width become limited. Beyond that point, the route may still be passable for smaller machines such as dirt bikes.

Difficulty

This trail is mostly straightforward, but a few features raise it above a basic dirt road. Washouts along the route can create uneven sections that require slower speeds and some thoughtful tire placement. The tight turn off Yellow Cat Loop is the main challenge, especially for longer wheelbase trucks, wider vehicles, or anyone towing. Smaller and short-wheelbase 4x4s should have little trouble in dry conditions.
