Trail Overview

Little Creek Mesa is a hidden gem for anyone looking for fantastic views, widely varying terrain, history or something for the entire family. There are large areas of flat, slick rock that people use for biking, numerous areas with historic pit houses and other remnants from the early culture and petroglyphs near the small water areas. It is very easy to spend a day exploring and hiking. Don't forget to look up as Zion National Park is just to the north and Sand Hollow to the west. The views near the edge of the mesa are nothing short of spectacular as this is one of the higher mesas in the area.

Difficulty

The main road is maintained and passable by most vehicles with moderate clearance. Side trails are mostly two track and passable for smaller 4x4s and off highway vehicles. The road has areas of dirt that become mud after a rain/snow fall.

History

The natives in the area would come up to the mesa to hunt, fish and gather berries to prepare for the winter months.

We did this trail counterclockwise. On the first half (I.e, the north/ right side) we probably would rate it a level 2 or 3 as it is narrow and there are some rocky sections that require higher clearance but no major obstacles. The second half (I.e., the south side) is easy and definitely a level 1. The trail was a bit muddy after some rains on the previous day. Overall, beautiful views, few other people, and awesome camping spots at the edge of the mesa overlooking Sand Hollow.

Very easy trail for the most part, the best view is from the top of the loop where the trail in onX comes close to the edge. There is a camping spot right on the edge of the mesa with spectacular views. If you take the Rocky Top Little Creek Mesa loop when you get on the slick rock look for the pink surveyor tape tied to the junipers. It is not clearly marked like you will experience at Moab, eventually you will return to the dirt.

Trail was in awesome shape. The lower SW corner of the Mesa was a bit snug for the full size, so if you don’t want pinstripes, avoid it. Lots of petroglyphs and other cool things to explore with the family. Saw some MTB groups but other than that had the place to ourselves. Incredible views too.

Great conditions, a little dusty. We encountered 2 vehicles no other SXS or ATV's. Perfect if you are looking to spend 4 hours or less on a ride.

Little muddy in some areas still. The western most spur that goes out towards the Mesa edge got too narrow for me in a full size vehicle. Had to walk the rest on foot to avoid pin stripes

Very muddy with lots of standing water throughout. No problem for the Jeep, but vehicles with low clearance and street tires will have a rough day until it dries out.
