Most the trail was fine. Just one steep hill near where the trail connects to Onion Creek that was steep and iced. We went down and slid sideways for a bit. Be careful.

For the most part just a rough dirt road. LOTS of cyclists heading uphill, but I think there may have been a race going on.

Trail is a fun mix of technical and scenic. That being said, it’s got some significant challenges for single track rides as there’s a ton of dugouts, large stones and steep inclines descents. Would personally rate this moderate. As an experienced motorcyclist and beginner dual sport rider, there were a few times the technical challenges came too fast and I had to dump my ride.

Coming from Onion Creek, quite a bit harder - I found snow falling due to elevation gain, harder climbs, and rocky surface. Still doable in stock truck, but not as much fun and not as scenic - a bit of a slog. Not sure I'd do it again. I would probably just backtrack on Onion Creek instead.

Stock 2011 Subaru Outback - started from Onion Creek and went eastward (clockwise) Three areas of difficulty. One was a super steep downhill with a sideways lean - soon after Hideout Camping Area (38.69728, -109.18794) Second was a series of ledges - we laid out rocks and branches to smooth it out and drive across (38.69729, -109.18790) Third was a snowy switchback where we started down into the inside of the turn and starting sliding down into the bank - I had let out of the tires and cleared the snow with my crampons to gain traction and we made it through but it felt like the edge of possibility. Would have been fine without snow. Chains would have worked here. (38.70136, -109.18080). Overall a challenging drive. Took us just shy of 6 hours. Not sure I would do it again frankly, especially with the snow present. Got pretty deep on Polar Mesa.

Definitely a step up from Onion Creek. Only problematic spot is near the entrance from Onion, a sandy descent near the gate, probably more difficult going up without damaging the trail than our going down.

I would definitely rate this trail a 4-5 due to how bumpy & rough it is. Pretty bumpy the whole time until you hit north beaver mesa. The north end switchbacks past hideout campground that take you into fisher valley are very deteriorated & there are some very deep incised washouts. This north end part was the most difficult.

I rated this a 4 as it was clearly a little more technical than Onion Creek. It was very beautiful and really fun trail. I would recommend giving yourself some time to get through and take pictures. There was almost no cell service going through Onion Creek and most of this trail so keep that in mind. Overall it's my favorite trail so far.
