Trail Overview

This trail is perfect for those seeking a peaceful and scenic experience, with gentle inclines and occasional water crossings subject to recent weather conditions on its north end. However, the highlight of this trail is the breathtaking scenery it offers, of the stunning Fisher Valley and Mountains of Manti-La Sal National Forest.

Most of hideout canyon road is easy. There are two climbs (heading away from Onion Creek) that have some ledges and embedded and loose rock that make this a 4/10 on a motorcycle. Fun ride, rode it both directions.

This trail is much harder than ascribed by OnX. More a 4/10 with several off camber, 12-18” rocky sections and ledges. They just kept coming till we reached the top intersection with Polar Mesa Trail. Our Sprinter made it through OK in 4 low, but we definitely were sweating it (not helped by 100’ weather, haha) and had to build up some obstacles to make it through.

Trail is harder than it’s rated. Multiple steep and off camber rocky sections with exposed drop offs. Was able to get thru with a full sized rig (f150) with 6” lift and 35” tires. Trail is slow going but the views are amazing specially towards the start (or end in my direction) of Polar Mesa.

This seems like a trail that is more difficult than the rating. It is slow going and rocky in areas, but well worth it.

The grades on this trail are stepper than a gentle incline. Some have tight corners that will be more challenging for wider vehicles and vehicles with longer wheelbases. There is also a sections passed the caping area that will require a stock high clearance 4WD to navigate.

Juse me and a jeep on the trail today. there was snow and ice on a good amount of the trail. had to do some climbs up icy obstacles on the narrow shelf sections with a huge drop off in the side. I wouldn't recommend doing this at this time due to the winter conditions.

Trail was fairly easy, more washed out/rough than I remembered from doing it 2 years ago.

8-10 inch ruts on top of the Mesa for several hundred yards in several stretches. The climb up the Mesa from onion creek requires focus and good lines.
