Trail Overview

This 3.8-mile point-to-point trail is part of the larger Kokopelli Trail System. This portion takes you from the Castle Valley Overlook on La-Sal Mountain Loop Road to Sand Flats Road. Sand Flats Road goes into the Sand Flats Recreation Area which is a Grand County Fee area. The first half of this trail runs along the Castle Valley Rim with great views of the area. This trail can become very muddy after moderate to heavy rainfall. This trail is very popular with mountain bikers, given right away to bikes.

Pretty snowed in, turned back after .25 miles, due to the condition. Got stuck a few times trying to get out. Jeep 2 door, lifted and 33in tires, in 4 low with aired down tires. I bet it’s a great and easy trail, but not in the snow.

Great trail! I'm a heavy Gladiator overlanding rig. This trail was exciting, but not overly demanding for the rig. Some rocky patches, some ruts. Very remote, one lane wide, cows, gates, a very old International tractor or truck body. Definitely a 3 rating.
