Trail Overview

Jacob City is a scenic loop with classic Great Basin scenery. The trail passes the historic Jacob City ghost town and then climbs to nearly 10,000 feet before climbing down to Soldier Canyon on a rough and narrow trail. Mine history is scattered throughout.

We started at the “Stockton Retention Pond”on the North East side. It gets mean really fast just off the road. big rocks washed out over grown with branches and limbs. As you progress up the east side there are some washouts and big boulders you will need to climb over, good clearance is a must. You will do many off camber areas. I know you will get some Rocky Mountain Pin strips. The climb up out of the bottom is very steep. “The Slide Corner “ is super sketchy, like why am I doing this Sketchy. We turned around at the old green buss very beautiful up there. I don’t think I will do the East side any more in a long bed extra cab. If you go in a truck good luck that corner sucks. We had to back up once to let two motorcycles and one side by side get by.

Honestly the beginning of the trail wasn’t bad at all. Once we go to the top it was a beautiful view. But once you start the other half of the loop through the private property lines it gets gnarly. Took my long bed Tacoma down the trail, and lowkey was more of a ATV trail 🤣 few sketchy spots for a long bed Tacoma. But 10/10, was dank 🤙

No snow. Back side very rough and tight, wouldn’t take a truck. Great loop though

Great trail ride for an afternoon ride. A little bit of everything. Better grade going counter clockwise as there are switchbacks going counter clockwise. But if you want a challenge on uphill climbing then go clockwise. Some small stream crossings on the north side. The view from top is breath taking overlooking the Great Basin to the west and south.

The trail is in good condition overall one spot has a pretty good rut from runoff but it’s only a small section.

Honestly, it was my fault I wrecked my truck on this trail. Should have payed more attention to ratings and others who have submitted comments. But I took my 2015 Chevy Silverado that was way too big to take down this loop. I wouldn’t recommend taking anything other than a fourwheeler or bike down this trail. Next time I won’t do it alone at 2 in the morning. Good luck

Didnt do the loop. Just from trail head to almost jacob city. The last little bit down to jacob city was too narrow for my full size truck. but side by sides can make it safely. good view

Great trail. The washout area after the bus has been filled in, just stay to the left. It gets rough with big rocks and logs after the bus. Stay on the trail and follow the no trespassing signs and you will be fine.

Two major issues with this route. The eastern portion of this route appears to pass through private property and is marked with no trespassing signs. According to the Tooele County parks and rec trail plan document this is a known issue with public trail sites and needs to be addressed. You can observe this by googling "Oquirrh Mountains Trails Plan 2024" and this info is on page 37. The other issue is the northwestern portion of this route travels through another marked "no trespassing" area.
