Trail Overview
Jackson Hole is a scenic 12.4-mile loop designed for intermediate offroaders seeking a remote, moderate adventure through a unique geological basin near Moab. Winding around the towering Jackson Butte inside a dry, ancient channel of the Colorado River, this trail offers a secluded experience starting at the base of Hurrah Pass. Drivers will navigate sandy washes, dirt tracks, and minor sandstone ledges that warrant its technical rating of 5. While stock, high-clearance 4x4 SUVs can successfully navigate the terrain with careful line selection, the tight turns and uneven surfaces present a greater challenge for longer wheelbase vehicles.
Elevations along the loop range from 3,953 feet up to 4,350 feet, providing exceptional views of the sheer red rock cliffs and the prominent 180-foot Moonlight Spire. Although the Colorado River runs closely along the western portion of the route, there is no motorized access to the water. The isolated nature of this basin means it is lightly traveled, making self-reliance, extra water, and recovery gear essential. The trail is accessible year-round, though spring and fall offer the most ideal temperatures for navigating this canyon landscape.

Moderate. Most of the route is easy; however, there are enough small ledges and rough spots to give it a moderate rating. Suitable for stock, highclearance, 4x4 SUVs. More challenging for long wheel-based vehicles.
