Trail Overview

This road is also known as North Lake Mountain Comm Road. This route will take you over the Lake Mountains, from Saratoga Springs (north) to Eagle Mountain (south). Please note that this is a seasonal trail and is closed during winter months. You can contact Utah County Public Works at (801)-851-8600 for more information. This trail is easily accessible and offers incredible views of Utah Lake, mountain meadows, and Eagle Mountain. Additionally, you will see several radio towers and stations towards the north part of the trail. If coming from the north (Saratoga Springs), there will be a few relatively steep, loose rock climbs within a mile of the first gate. 4WD/AWD and good tires are highly recommended (Crosstrek/RAV would likely make it). After approximately 1 mile of those climbs, the terrain turns into a smoother single track through the canyon, where you will see some nice meadows and views. There will be two more gates along the way, with the last one indicating the end of the trail. Both the north and south sides of the trail have several trails branching off to explore, as well as a few branches along the trail to vistas and a more difficult, skyline route that runs parallel to the East.

Difficulty

There is approximately 1 mile of relatively steep climb that has large, loose gravel/rock. Much more smooth after that climb. Use caution when descending stops, the surface is very loose. 4WD is highly recommended as well as good tires.

Went up to the radio towers. Pretty rutted out and dusty in some areas. Overall a pretty fun drive that’s nice and close.

Drove up and back down the from the north, it’s definitely sketchy at parts. You’ll hit a pretty steep incline just before the radio towers at the top that has larger loose gravel. Definitely a challenge and som parts are sketchy with a good drop-off. There was a good amount of traffic going up / coming down. There are some spots that are a little washed out / rutted and the final climb near the top can really only fit one vehicle going one way. Take it slow and definitely air down. I didn’t and it was a bumpy ride. For sure need 4X4. Views are worth it.

Super fun ride going north to south. One decently hard climb, lots of loose rocks and fairly steep but besides that, a relatively mild ride.

The trail was pretty easy going south side but the last 1 1/2 of the trail was extremely rutted out the heavy rain recently probably didn’t help last section will require 4L and some caution picking lines can be done in a stock truck taking it slow

Only went less than halfway up the north side but the trail was very muddy and a little bit snowy/icy with a few deep ruts.

Trail is mostly dry, but rutted out and rocky. Just a light dusting of snow in the shade on the ridge but mostly dry.

Slippery mud in one spot. A little bit before the switch backs there was a icy hill we couldn't get up. We got up half way and then started slipping and sliding backwards. We weren't aired down but I don't think that would've made much of a difference.

Some deeper snow up top but low pressure and 4wd low should be fine.

subaru wrx with 10 inches of clearance made it to radio towers no big deal, friend who frequents the trail says it was in average condition, minimal to no mud

fun track to do i would definitely recommend if your planning on going after a big storm to have either traction boards or a winch for some of the mud holes, some are pretty sloppy and could get stuck after a hard rain

I traveled from north to south. I don't know which direction is easier. The most sketchy part of this trail is slippery gravel. I would personally rate it a 3/10 for difficulty. Pretty entertaining trail for solitude and a book on tape.

No issues going up in a stock rubicon. Little bumpy with a climb up loose rocks and gravel, but nothing too serious. Put the Jeep in 4WL a couple times climbing up, as well as disconnected the sway bar to smooth the ride a little. Amazing views at the top of the climb!
