Trail Overview

This trail is a fun, easy cruise that follows the powerlines south-west of Saratoga Springs UT up and over some of the Lake Mountain foothills. The trail has some great views of the Utah lake and takes you into some neat areas that are worth exploring further on your own! This is a great trail for a quick afternoon cruise as it is close to Redwood Road and is fairly well groomed it can be completed in under an hour. The terrain is moderate depending on recent rain conditions. It can typically be completed in a 2WD vehicle although high ground clearance is strongly recommended as there are some rocky areas that can be made more challenging by rain runoff. The trail ends back on Redwood Road.

Difficulty

Some sections are quite rocky and moderately steep. 2wd vehicles may struggle depending on how washed out the trail is. With a little momentum, it should be ok though. There are more challenging optional paths that can be taken.

Super extra stock Colorado Trail Boss had no problems in clear conditions but towards the southwest end there are sharp rocks I was worried about the stock all terrains. Great view over Utah lake and the mountains in the background at one point.

Was staying nearby and figured I’d take the Rental Ram 2500 out for trail ride. Much more complex for a 4 rating than expected. Lots of 15-18° inclines. Some good technical parts that are fun to tackle. We came in from the north end and the trip down was rough, note the riverbed in the southern 1/4 is rough. Basketball sized rocks and ruts and offsets up to 3ft in depth. Took us 2 hours to run,(also didn’t want to put a hole in the Transforce Highway tires haha)

Trail was muddy in some areas. All mud crossing was on flat parts of the trail. The inclines were just semi wet dirt. Some bigger rocks but easy to avoid. Only saw 1 other vehicle on the trail. We had a great time and had no problems in the stock Pathfinder.

A few good ruts but nothing crazy. Snow at the top near 5500’. We were the only truck on the trail. Only had to put it in 4hi once for the snow. Other than that, fun little cruise.

Starts and ends pretty easy. Lots of loose rocks and parts that would probably be rated a 6/10 difficulty. We had to find an alternative route for a part that had bad erosion. 4x4 required

Trail is in relatively good shape. Dry the whole way and rough as always. Good fun trail for testing repairs close to home and for a fun evening with the Mrs. 2 or 3 spots are a bit tricky, but must of it is reasonably easy. Just not for a true newbie.
