Trail Overview

Elkhorn Loop is a 26-mile point-to-point trail that runs up into the Uintas before turning back and heading down a different canyon and back down and out of the Uintas. This trail is well maintained, with the east half better maintained than the west half. The west half has a few small rocks in the trail and is narrower, though it is still not very difficult. This trail climbs steeply up into the mountains with long climbs on both halves of the trail. This trail is scenic throughout, with plenty of pullouts along the trail during the climbs that overlook the canyon as you travel further up the hill. This trail is open to all vehicles and has no seasonal closure date but may be impassable during the winter and spring due to deep snow accumulation at higher elevations. The bottom end of this trail on both sides is on reservation land and private property and will have posted signs for no trespassing off the road, as the road is an easement through the property.
