Trail Overview

Diana's Throne is an exceptional four-mile off-road trail near Orderville, Utah, that serves as a premier destination for high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles and SxSs looking for scenic red rock vistas and challenging sandy climbs. Climbing from a minimum elevation of 5,186 feet to a maximum of 6,125 feet, the route guides drivers through a beautiful desert landscape with views of the distinctive skyline that resembles a reclining woman. The trail features a technical rating of 6, characterized by loose sandy hills, sandstone ledges, and narrow squeezes that can pose challenges for full-size rigs. Offroaders should be prepared for changing traction conditions and tight sections that require careful tire placement. The trail provides convenient access to popular canyoneering spots, including the scenic Huntress and Hunted slot canyons, making it a great option for multi-sport adventures. Due to the steep grades and challenging breakover, approach, and departure angles, stock four-wheel-drive vehicles may struggle, and having an experienced spotter is highly recommended. The dry, sandy wash crossings and slickrock climbs are best navigated during dry conditions, as wet weather can quickly make the loose slopes impassable. Local knowledge suggests lowering tire pressure to assist with traction in the deep sand sections that occur throughout the route.

Difficulty

There are spots where the breakover angle and steep grades will make you appreciate a spotter. These angles will make approach/departure angle a concern for most stock 4x4s.

Took west to east. That’s the best for viewing “Diana”. The west 2/3 is easy but very soft sand and keep some speed in the turns or you may hit the steep walls. The east 1/3 is very difficult as you drop into the red canyon/valley. I’m on 33”s with a 2.5” level, if you have anything less, turn around before the canyon! I scraped all my armor multiple times. I got stuck 3 times in the canyon area. It’s very tight and was hard to maneuver my truck to get better lines. The end is definitely more of jeep trail or you better have really good approach and departure angles with big tires. I had to bridge with traction boards not to scrape my front bumper a few times. I got stuck once because I didn’t have a locker and got lucky there was something to winch from. The final hill is very difficult (circled in red) and is easy to miss. I had clearance and grip issues with the first part of the hill and had to winch with about 120 feet of rope. Then I was in 4lo the rest of it. After that it’s easy.

Access Description

The trail is located on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land. No permits or fees are required to drive the trail, but out-of-state OHVs must be registered with the state of Utah or have a valid non-resident OHV permit. Street-legal 4x4 vehicles and SxSs are permitted.
