Trail Overview
This route winds through striking desert badlands filled with colorful layered cliffs, sandy washes, and rolling ridgelines. The trail begins as an easy sandy two-track, but conditions quickly become more interesting as the route drops into shallow drainages, crosses uneven wash bottoms, and climbs back onto higher benches. Expect loose sand, off-camber sections, and scattered rocky areas that require careful tire placement. Several hills and short descents add variety, with some steeper approaches where traction is helpful. Along the way, expansive views open across the surrounding mesas and multicolored formations, making this a scenic drive as much as an off-road route. The trail narrows in places and may become harder to follow where vegetation and erosion have softened the original track.
Difficulty
This route is mostly a scenic desert two-track but includes enough obstacles to keep drivers attentive. Soft sand, uneven wash crossings, scattered rocks, off-camber sections, and a few steeper climbs or descents raise the difficulty above beginner level. Most capable stock high-clearance 4x4s should be able to handle it in dry conditions.
