Trail Overview
Cowboy Camp Road is a challenging 4.5-mile off-road trail in Utah's Manti-La Sal National Forest, perfect for intermediate drivers seeking a rugged route to scenic alpine waters and primitive camping. Climbing to an elevation of 9,465 feet, this unmaintained track winds through dense stands of aspen and pine, offering direct access to Deep Lake. Offroaders will encounter a mix of dirt and loose rock, with the route presenting steady climbs and descents. The trail's remote setting makes it an exceptional escape for those looking to combine technical driving with serene overnight stays in the backcountry.
Navigating this trail requires a high-clearance 4x4 vehicle or a capable OHV to handle the moderate obstacles, which include deep ruts, off-camber sections, and rock obstacles up to 18 inches tall. Small wash crossings and eroded, steep grades add to the technical demand. During or after inclement weather, the dirt surface becomes extremely slick and muddy, significantly increasing the difficulty. The trail is best driven from late June through October when the high-country snow has melted, and it serves as a key connector within the massive Arapeen Trail system near Mount Baldy.

Very rocky, rutted and off-camber trail with erosion, loose rocks, and obstacles up to 1.5 feet tall, including small washes across the road, and short, steep grades. Can be very slick and difficult in inclement weather.
