Trail Overview
Bull Canyon, Day Canyon is a scenic, moderate 4.8-mile off-road route near Moab, Utah, offering stock high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles and SxSs a winding journey through a deep sandstone canyon. Spanning from an elevation of 4,636 feet up to 5,133 feet, the trail follows a primarily sandy wash bottom flanked by towering red rock walls. Drivers will navigate a total elevation gain of roughly 668 feet over mild but changing terrain, with the average gradient resting at a manageable 3 degrees. This trail is ideal for those seeking a less technical but highly scenic cruise that leads deep into the heart of Moab’s spectacular canyon country.
While generally rated as a moderate level 4 difficulty, heavy desert rains can quickly alter the sandy wash, depositing debris or creating challenging ruts. High-clearance four-wheel-drive SUVs, ATVs, and SxSs will easily negotiate the standard obstacles, but drivers should be prepared for narrowing canyon walls near the end of the route where turning larger vehicles around becomes difficult. Along the way, visitors can park and take a short hike to view Gemini Bridges from below, an iconic geologic formation that is closed to motorized vehicles.
Difficulty
Moderate. Generally this route is fairly easy, but heavy rains can sometimes cause problems in the wash bottom. Usually suitable for most stock, high-clearance, 4-wheel-drive SUVs.
