Trail Overview

Buckmaster Road is an easy and scenic county road that serves as one of the main gateways into the San Rafael region of Utah. This wide gravel route connects Highway 6 with Green River to Smith's Cabin and Buckmaster Draw making it an excellent access road for travelers heading toward many of the area’s more adventurous 4x4 trails. The surface is primarily gravel and generally well maintained, with enough room for two vehicles to pass comfortably along the entire route. Expect a few stretches of washboard and bumps that can make for a rougher ride at higher speeds.

Difficulty

Buckmaster Road is a straightforward county gravel road suitable for most stock high-clearance SUVs, trucks, and even many passenger vehicles in dry conditions. The route is wide, easy to follow, and primarily consists of maintained crushed gravel. The only challenges are occasional washboard sections, bumps, and possible muddy spots after rain. No technical obstacles, ledges, or difficult terrain were noted. Great access road for reaching more advanced trails deeper in the San Rafael region.

History

Buckmaster Road has long served as a practical travel route across this remote desert country, connecting ranching, mining, and recreation access roads. Today it remains an important gateway for modern explorers entering the San Rafael region.
