Trail Overview
Boss Canyon is a highly scenic, 50-inch-width-restricted trail offering riders an immersive journey through dense pine forests and over the Idaho-Utah state line. Starting off the Franklin Basin Road between Logan Canyon, Utah, and Cub River, Idaho, this route is ideal for dirt bikes, ATVs, and narrow SxSs. The path winds through thick stands of timber, providing cool shade and a classic backcountry atmosphere. As the trail climbs, drivers will encounter an uneven, rutted dirt surface that demands constant attention. Loose rocks, occasional sandy washes, and minor erosion ruts provide a mild but engaging challenge for offroaders seeking a scenic escape without extreme obstacles.
The route progresses westward, crossing the geographic border between Idaho and Utah before concluding at a stunning overlook on the main ridge of the Bear River Range near Double Top. Because of the strict 50-inch vehicle width limit, full-size four-wheel-drive vehicles cannot access this trail, ensuring a quieter experience tailored to smaller off-road platforms. Seasonal accessibility is typically limited to the late spring through autumn months when snow has fully melted from the high-altitude forested corridors. Proper trail etiquette and a spark arrestor are recommended to preserve the pristine surrounding national forest lands.
