Trail Overview

Non-Resident OHV permits apply to ATVs, UTVs, and dirt bikes. Plated street-legal vehicles typically do not need one on legal motorized routes. This route is an easy scenic drive through open desert country with broad views in nearly every direction. The road surface is primarily dirt and sand, making it accessible to most vehicles in dry conditions, including many 2WD and AWD vehicles. Because the terrain is generally mild, it is a good option for travelers who want to explore the area without committing to a highly technical trail. As you travel, the surrounding landscape opens to distant views of mesas, rolling terrain, and the La Sal Mountains rising on the horizon. The route is especially enjoyable at sunrise or sunset when changing light brings out the colors of the desert. Conditions can change quickly after rain, however, and the normally easy surface may become softer, slicker, or more difficult to navigate. Wildlife sightings are common, including antelope, so remain alert and reduce speed when visibility is limited or animals are nearby.
