Trail Overview
Clearly marked at its entrance by a standard brown carsonite forest service post, BLM 106W is a beautifully scenic, highly approachable backcountry two-track. The trail features a generally firm, hardpack sand surface that playfully winds its way through a classic high-desert landscape, heavily populated by mature green juniper trees under a brilliant blue sky. As off-roaders cruise along this notably relaxed transit, they will briefly pass an old, graffiti-covered metal tub resting in the brush, adding a touch of rustic desert character to the environment. Serving as a portion of a larger 6-mile round-trip adventure, the route purposefully guides explorers out to a spectacular, highly desirable cliff-edge campsite. This premier, isolated terminus beautifully rewards travelers with sweeping, dual-directional vistas, perfectly showcasing the towering White Cliffs in one direction and looking far out over the majestic valley just east of Zion National Park in the other.
Difficulty
BLM 106W comfortably and confidently earns a Level 2 Easy technical rating, a score entirely dictated by its smooth, approachable terrain. Unlike the exceptionally deep, power-sapping sand pits found heavily throughout the surrounding network, this specific trail features a distinctly firm, hardpack sand surface that allows for a wonderfully relaxed, easy rolling driving experience. The distinctly flat path fundamentally lacks severe rock-crawling ledges, deeply washed-out ravines, or intimidating off-camber obstacles. As a result, a standard high-clearance 2WD truck, AWD crossover, or stock SUV can comfortably and confidently navigate this beautiful desert transit without requiring heavy vehicle modifications, lowered tire pressures, or specialized four-wheel-drive systems.
