BLM 104H is a highly engaging, 2.7-mile backcountry two-track that treats explorers to some of the most rewarding scenery in the area. This distinctly tight and twisty sandy path playfully meanders through a dense, vibrant high-desert landscape. As drivers bob and weave through the noticeably narrow corridor created by mature green juniper trees and large, encroaching sagebrush, the journey takes on an intimate, secluded feel under the brilliant blue sky. Along this wonderfully quiet transit, backcountry travelers will discover multiple flat, inviting dispersed camping sites perfectly positioned for an isolated overnight retreat. The true reward of this scenic drive comes as the trail officially breaks out at the edge. Here, it leads out to multiple beautiful viewpoints that perfectly highlight the dramatic, contrasting red and white stone cliffs located both directly across the canyon and situated far off in the sweeping distance.

BLM 104H comfortably earns a Level 2 Easy technical rating, primarily dictated by its pockets of occasional deep red sand found along the soft, heavily tracked surface. While the route fundamentally lacks severe rock-crawling ledges or intimidating washouts, successfully negotiating the shifting sand safely requires steady momentum and adequate vehicle ground clearance. Because the distinctly winding trail tightly weaves between rigid juniper trees and thick sagebrush, aggressive cosmetic pinstriping along the vehicle's side panels is a guarantee for anyone attempting the transit. Lowering your tire air pressures before hitting the trail is highly recommended to improve essential flotation and maintain reliable traction through the corners.
