Trail Overview
BLM 104L/M is a remarkably scenic, little-used 1.8-mile backcountry two-track that escorts explorers to an absolutely stunning cliffside overlook. Due to a severe washout that forced the abandonment of the original 104M entrance, drivers must now begin their journey on BLM 104L, which seamlessly connects into the remaining, viable portion of 104M. The vivid red-sand trail weaves tightly through a dense, mature juniper forest under bright, clear skies. This distinctly narrow corridor dictates a slow-going pace as vehicles are forced to carefully bob and weave between the encroaching tree branches. The rugged journey officially concludes at a breathtaking, panoramic viewpoint situated directly on the cliff's edge, offering sweeping, unobstructed vistas of the vast valleys and plateaus far below. With just enough flat space to comfortably accommodate two trucks, this majestic terminus doubles as an unforgettable, deeply isolated campsite for a quiet overnight stay.

BLM 104L/M comfortably earns a Level 3 Moderate technical rating. While much of the route involves navigating soft, shifting red sand that requires lowered tire pressures for essential traction, the true technical difficulty lies in the final stretch. During the last quarter-mile approach to the overlook, the trail demands a short but demanding section of off-camber rock crawling. A high-clearance 4x4 vehicle is absolutely mandatory to safely clear these uneven, leaning obstacles without sliding or sustaining severe undercarriage damage. Additionally, because the trail weaves so tightly through the trees, heavy cosmetic pinstriping is an unavoidable guarantee for any rig
