Trail Overview
BLM 104B is a highly engaging, 0.5-mile backcountry two-track that safely escorts off-road explorers out to a spectacular overlook situated high above a rugged canyon. Under clear, brilliant blue skies, this vividly colored, soft red-sand path gently meanders through a vibrant high-desert landscape heavily populated by mature green juniper trees and thick, high sagebrush. Because the driving corridor becomes notably tight and twisty in several sections, drivers must maintain a methodical pace as they carefully weave through the encroaching brush. This deeply immersive, quiet transit provides a peaceful and highly scenic journey through the backcountry. The brief but rewarding drive officially culminates at the canyon's edge, offering an unforgettable, panoramic vantage point looking directly down into the vast expanse below.
Difficulty
BLM 104B earns a Level 3 Moderate technical rating due to a specific, demanding terrain feature encountered along the path. While much of the brief route is a standard soft-sand transit, drivers must safely negotiate a distinctly soft, sketchy section that cuts directly through a washed-out ravine. This specific obstacle features exceptionally deep, shifting ruts that absolutely require a high-clearance 4x4 vehicle to comfortably clear without high-centering or sustaining severe undercarriage damage. Lowering your tire air pressures before hitting the trail is strongly recommended to vastly improve essential flotation and maintain reliable traction through the loose wash.
