Trail Overview
BLM 100F is a remarkably scenic, 2.3-mile backcountry two-track that treats off-road explorers to a beautifully quiet high-desert transit. Marked near its entrance by a weathered brown carsonite forest service post, the distinctly winding trail playfully meanders through a dense, vibrant forest of mature green juniper trees and rustic desert scrub under a bright, cloud-dotted sky. Because the designated driving corridor weaves so tightly into the natural landscape, visitors are naturally encouraged to maintain a steady, deliberate pace to fully appreciate the remote surroundings. Along the journey, the deeply tracked, soft red-sand surface creates a highly engaging driving experience that perfectly highlights the rugged beauty of the region. The path gracefully rolls over gentle, undulating rises and through shadowed woodland dips, offering a truly immersive, secluded escape for those looking to safely traverse the backcountry terrain.
Difficulty
BLM 100F confidently earns a Level 3 Moderate technical rating. While much of the 2.3-mile route serves as a standard sandy transit, the primary difficulty stems from numerous, distinctly uneven sections featuring deep, off-camber ruts carved heavily into the trail. Safely negotiating these steep, leaning washouts without sliding sideways or sustaining severe undercarriage damage absolutely requires a high-clearance vehicle equipped with a reliable four-wheel-drive (4WD) system. Furthermore, lowering your tire air pressures before entering the trail is strongly recommended to vastly improve essential flotation in the exceptionally soft red sand and maintain critical traction over the tilted terrain. Low-clearance AWD crossovers will likely drag on the deep ruts.
