Trail Overview

This trail consists of narrow county roads along the Erath and Eastland county line that cruise along exotic game ranches, old ranches from the 1880s, and dispersed cemeteries from the settling of the area. The road surface ranges from caliche to crushed sandstone & granite to hard-packed gravel and rocks with lots of loose substrate in the corners and bottoms. The road has lots of overhanging trees, views across the fields, and narrow sweeping turns that can be fun to drive.

Difficulty

These roads are a mix of barely maintained county roads with surfaces of crushed gravel, some caliche, and lots of hard packed local soil that includes limestone and granite. Motorcycles should pay attention as there are sections of loose top surfaces and sand in the low spots. There are numerous seasonal low water crossings that are not an issue unless it rains. Then the semi dry crossing points could be under up to 18" of water. The roads can have significant erosion trenches across the road year-round.

Night run. Good time. Saw 1 deer. Nothing of concern for drivers but would recommend 4x4.

Pretty cool basic trail. I’d say drive at like 35-45 makes this all worth the while

My wife went to drive the "Loop" today. My wife drove the entire Loop - from East side to West side (recommended). The route was dry with no water on the road or crossing it. There were a few fun hills on the West side. I can see where there could be some areas that could be prone to becoming high(er) water crossings after a heavy rain. But today was nice and relaxing - nothing technical at all. Just nice to be out in the countryside. Have fun.

Love the backroads of North Hill Country. Went immediately after a major long storm that hit north Texas. Roads were very soupy and all creeks were FLOWIN over roads. Deepest I went through was roughly 18-20” deep. Hit a spot on the west side I decided to turn around due to road being absolute soup, due to lack of service and remoteness I just decided to reverse it. Saw a few hen turkeys, some does ran along side us. 10/10 would recommend, it's beautiful out there.

Trail conditions were good overall. West side of trail has the most obstacles. Several low water crossings with the deepest being about 6" deep. There was one dry low water crossing if you are in a lower vehicle beware of your approach angle. 1 tree partially blocked road but able to get around with no pinstriping. Several things to see along the way. Minimal local traffic passed maybe 5 vehicles. Parts of this route are basically in peoples front yard so please be respectful of dust and speed at times. Some potholes and washouts throughout but nothing horrible. East side of trail is well maintained wide county road.

This was my first ever trail. I enjoyed it. It’s basically just dirt and gravel backroads but there were some fun muddy patches and washouts. Great for beginners.

If you’re looking for a nice relaxing drive with nothing technical this is your spot. White rocked roads the whole way, the back half is more fun in my opinion with a few good water crossings at the end of the loop. The SmokeStack restaurant is right across from the loop and a great place to stop after you make the loop. Also note Breckenridge trail is roughly 12-15 mins from Tudor loop. I will leave a review on that run as well.

We saw a bit of wild life, a couple turkey, a javelina and a cat. Great side quest from our road trip. We saw 1 other vehicle the whole drive.

Very quiet and peaceful trail. Very dusty. Has a few low water crossings but with no rain, it's not anything to worry about.

Trail was loose gravel and overall in pretty good shape. Only saw one other car for the ~35 or so miles I did.
