Trail Overview

Priddy Windmills is an easy, scenic dirt and gravel route perfect for beginners, families, and any vehicle looking for a relaxing cruise through the Texas countryside. Stretching approximately 12.6 miles through the Flat Top wind farm between Goldthwaite and Priddy, this trail offers drivers up-close views of 100 massive wind turbines silently spinning across the landscape. The route features a gentle technical rating of 1 out of 10, consisting of well-groomed county dirt and gravel roads that do not require high clearance or four-wheel-drive under dry conditions. Drivers can expect minimal elevation changes with a maximum elevation of 1,778 feet and a total elevation gain of around 383 feet, making it accessible for standard passenger vehicles, SUVs, and SxSs alike. Flanked by rolling green fields, local pastures, and scattered reservoirs, the drive provides numerous opportunities to pull over safely and photograph the towering windmills against the Texas sky. The path winds north from Highway 16, offering a peaceful detour through active agricultural land where drivers should remain mindful of local farm equipment and occasional livestock. Since the route consists of county-maintained dirt roads, conditions are generally stable year-round, though heavy rain can occasionally create slick mud. This straightforward journey requires no special permits or fees, making it an excellent addition to a regional road trip or a quick afternoon drive in Central Texas.
