Trail Overview
This short off-road trail connects park road 3 to the southwest rim, rated at a level 7 out of 10 for difficulty, thanks to several loose rock sections and small but steep climbs throughout. Expect an immediate challenge as the trail features a mix of exposed limestone bedrock and loose rocks, requiring careful tire placement and momentum management. The climbs, though brief, are steep enough to test traction and clearance on most modified rigs, making lockers advisable but not strictly necessary for skilled drivers. Vegetation is sparse aside from some hardy scrub and yucca, and the trail is open with great visibility across the southwest rim area.Due to its short length, the route suits a quick technical run or warm-up for more challenging terrain nearby. This trail does have a winch point to help navigate your way up the trail. The rocky surface and loose debris mean you should expect wheel slip and the occasional need to reposition if climbing in less capable vehicles. The end of the trail rewards you with sweeping views over the park's rugged landscape before looping back or branching into other routes.
Difficulty
A level 7 off-road trail is classified as difficult, featuring frequent loose rocks, exposed bedrock, and short steep climbs that can exceed hub height. These trails require a modified vehicle with larger tires, possible lockers, and experienced driving skills due to the potential for wheel slip, vehicle scraping, and challenging traction scenarios. Stock vehicles and inexperienced drivers should avoid these routes, as recovery operations and technical maneuvers are often needed. A winch point is located halfway up the trail to your left for assistance if needed.
