Trail Overview

Hot Springs Road is a gravel backcountry route in the southeastern portion of Big Bend National Park that provides access to the historic Hot Springs along the Rio Grande. At the end of the road, a short hike leads to the remains of early 1900s buildings, Native American pictographs, and the famous hot springs located along the edge of the river. The road itself is generally easy to travel, but a portion becomes one-way as it traverses a narrow section along a steep drop-off. Wider vehicles should use extra caution through this area, and trailers are not recommended due to the limited space and narrow roadway.

Difficulty

Hot Springs Road is primarily an easy gravel road with few technical obstacles, but the narrow one-way section adds some difficulty. Drivers must navigate close to a steep drop-off with limited room, which can be more challenging in wider vehicles. Good ground clearance is recommended, and trailers should be avoided due to the narrow sections of the road.
