Trail Overview
Gabion Trail is a short but exceptionally tough off-road trail, covering just over a third of a mile with a dramatic 161-foot elevation gain packed into about 100 yards. The route features steep, rocky climbs, uneven ledges, and loose rock sections requiring high-clearance 4x4 vehicles. A winch may be necessary due to the formidable obstacles and inclines presented along this trail. The landscape showcases rugged Texas hill country views, with dense brush and open vistas throughout.
Difficulty
Gabion Trail is rated difficult due to its extremely steep grade, loose rocks, and large ledges that create challenging climbs and off-camber sections. The short distance packs in a rapid 161-foot elevation gain, requiring high-clearance 4x4 vehicles and often a winch for safe passage through several technical rock obstacles.
