Trail Overview

Escondido Trail (V36) is a fun off-road route inside Escondido Draw Recreation Area that offers a good introduction to some of the park’s rockier terrain. This section begins with several larger rocks and boulders that require careful tire placement and attention to ground clearance. After navigating the rockier beginning, the trail gradually becomes easier and transitions into more manageable terrain. With a few small obstacles along the way, this section is a great option for drivers looking to get comfortable with their vehicle and experience some light technical off-roading without taking on the park’s more difficult rock-crawling trails.

Difficulty

This section of Escondido Trail (V36) is an easy off-road trail with several larger rocks and boulders near the beginning that require careful tire placement. A high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicle is recommended, along with skid plates or other underbody protection due to the possibility of contacting rocks. Once past the initial rocky section, the trail becomes noticeably easier with no major technical obstacles.
