Trail Overview

This is an easy trail that consists of maintained dirt and gravel Forest Service roads. It starts off crossing Caney Creek and ends at the shores of Lake Conroe. This trail offers access to every activity the Sam Houston National Forest has to offer: equestrian trails, OHV trails (50-inch class) fishing, hunting, and camping open year-round.

Mellow trail. Drove it all the way through and there were no washouts / obstructions. Nothing technical, nothing required 4x4 or high ground clearance.

as stated there is a large washout. I back tracked to a side trail that looked like it was for 4-wheelers, but it turned out to be a horse trail as it got tighter and tighter. apparently vehicles aren't allowed on horse trails. once out of that there was a locked gate to get back onto the trail. had to pick through gaps in the forest to bypass the gate. shortly after was a downed tree that also requires going through the woods to get around. if you're going to attempt, I do not recommend going in a full size 4x4.

Unless you have the ability to super jump, this trail will need a bridge to be built to continue

The northwest most portion is closed due to 209. If you start on 1791 and go SOUTHEAST everything else is open. Forest roads have been slowly opening over the last six weeks, but the forest service only posts an update every 30 days.

Many Sam Houston National Forest roads are open again, or will be opening soon. Refer to USFS Texas Pages for info on particular roads. Drove this from FM1791 South and several side roads. All dry. Repairs in the area are ongoing, so you might meet up with a gravel truck or two (18 Wheelers) and have to find a spot to let them by. FS209 West from 1791 is still showing to be closed on the FS web site.
