Trail Overview
Boss Hog is a connecting trail that runs behind some of the park's more challenging routes, such as Test Tube and U Joint Buster. It is a two-way trail, and your experience will vary depending on where you start. Beginning at the Test Tube or U Joint Buster end, the trail starts relatively easy and gradually becomes more difficult. Conversely, starting at the Royal Gorge connection presents a challenging beginning that eases as you progress. 1 switchback turn with overhanging tree branches approximately halfway through the trail. The trail predominantly features stair-stepped ledges, slight off-camber ruts, and sections of hard-packed dirt road. There is also potential for water to pond in certain areas, which may be deeper than they initially appear.

Difficulty
Most obstacles on this trail are encountered during the elevation gain portion of the trail. Expect stair-stepped ledges, a switchback with overhanging tree branches, and small off-camber sections. Light pinstriping is likely in the switchback area. Running the trail from east to west provides a greater challenge, as you will be climbing the ledges rather than descending them. Ledges range between 2 and 3 feet tall and have multiple line options to choose from.
